Boardwalk Fun Birthday Card for Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Happy Thursday! Time for our weekly blog Hop! This week we have a color challenge! We are to use Basic Black, Basic White, and another color of our choice!

I was originally planning to do a Christmas card with gold as my 3rd color. However, we woke up to frost on the ground this morning so I needed to channel some warmth instead! I am sure that those of you up north with snow are thinking frost is no biggie, but cold weather and I are NOT friends! So I cheered myself up by reaching for the new Boardwalk Fun bundle and using Bubble Bath for my 3rd color. The palm trees and the happy pink color put me in a upbeat mood! Here’s the card I made:

This new Boardwalk Fun bundle is part of the Beach Boardwalk Suite Collection that will be available in January. In addition to the bundle, I also used the new Sparkle Dots Essentials that will also be available in January. The black and white polka dot patterned paper is from the Modern Christmas Designer Series Paper.

To make this card, I cut Basic Black cardstock for the cardbase. It was cut at 4-1/4 x 11″ and scored at 5-1/2″. The next panel is the Modern Christmas DSP, cut at 4-1/8 x 5-3/8″. Next I cut Bubble Bath cardstock at 3-3/8 x 4-5/8″ I stamped this Bubble Bath panel with the 3 palm tree images from the Boardwalk Fun stamp set in Bubble Bath ink as well. For the one that appears very tall, I actually stamped the tallest palm tree up higher then I just inked only the trunk portion to continue it to the bottom of the panel. I did that for a few of the other palm trees as well, so I could position the heights of the trees exactly where I wanted them. Then I cut out Basic Black palm trees with the 2 palm tree dies. For the tallest one on the left, I cut the trunk off another one and glued it together to extend the height of the tree. I disguised the connection by placing a palm tree leaf from the next tree on top of the connection. I glued this Bubble Path panel onto a Basic Black panel cut at 3-1/2 x 4-3/4 and adhered the matted panel with dimensionals. I used the ticket die to make the black ticket. I stamped the sentiment “Happy Birthday” from Boardwalk Fun stamp set in Bubble Bath ink onto Basic White scrap. I cut that with my trimmer for it to fit inside the ticket. I adhered the sentiment on with dimensionals as well. The final step was to use 3 of the new Sparkle Dot Essentials for some bling.

For the inside of the card, I stamped the palm trees across the bottom of a panel of Basic White in Bubble Bath ink.

Then of course, I had to decorate the envelope too! I added the Modern Christmas polka dot pattern to the envelope flap and stamped a Bubble Bath palm tree on the front.

Is it just me, but does this card give you the 1950s vibes with the pink and polka dots? I’m now imagining a 1950s lady wearing her fashionable pink polka dotted dress. She’s outside on a sunny California day walking on a sidewalk of a palm- lined street…… (sure beats the gloomy, frosty day outside right now)

I hope you enjoyed this card as much as I did! If you have any questions about the card or any of your stamping needs, please reach out to me at nicole@thesigningstamper.com, Id love to help you! 🤟
