Turtle-y Cute for Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Hope you are having a great week! It has been a busy week for many! Kids starting school, new routines, and weather changes, etc. Here in South Carolina, we are starting to keep an eye on possible hurricanes forming. For me, the hurricanes signal the end of summer and the beginning of fall. However, one thing that has not changed- its Thursday and that means it’s time for another Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop!!

This week we have a sketch challenge:

I have to admit, when I first saw this sketch challenge, I was not sure about it. But I let my creative juices flow and I ended up loving it!!! These challenges have really helped me as a crafter! If you are feeling a little “stuck” or feel like you are making the same card design over and over, definitely try some challenges. You will notice a difference in your creative design skills after a few of them, I promise!!! Here is the card I made:

I made this card with my son in mind. He LOVES music. He has been playing the piano since he was five years old. He played drums for middle school band, and the quads for his high school band. He has recently taught himself how to play guitar, and he likes to create music with a computer program. I feel bad that as a deaf mom, I cannot hear the music he makes. However, I see that smile on his face and in his eyes when he plays. That is all I need- to see that he is happy- and that makes my mama heart happy.

To make this card, I used Lemon-Lime Twist for the cardbase and cut it at 11 x 4-1/4″, scored at 5-1/2″. I cut a panel of Real Red at -5-1/2x 3-1/2″ and glued that in the center. Next, I added a panel of the Turtle-y Cute Designer Series Paper. cut at 5-1/2 x 3-1/4″. I chose the musical paper and specifically cut the paper so that the drum, accordian, and banjo were featured. That was centered and glued on.

The sentiment is from stamp set Mixed Labels. It is inked in Real Red and stamped onto Basic White. I cut it out with a Mixed Labels Die. Then I traced this same die onto Real Red with a pencil, and fussy cut it out so that I could mat the white on top of the red. The sentiment panel is adhered with dimensionals. If you look at the sketch, the sentiment goes on the right side. I decided I liked it better on the left side. That’s nice thing about these challenges. It’s more of a guide rather than rigid restrictions! So don’t be afraid to try a challenge! I cut out little music notes from the DSP. I glued them on the sentiment panel to add on to the “note” theme in the sentiment. The final step was to add 3 Cherry Cobbler Adhesive-Backed Berries on the top right of the card.

For the inside, I added a strip of the DSP for decoration and the sentiment is from the Charming Day stamp set. I am really happy with how this card turned out and will be mailing it to my son at his college.
