Spooky Halloween for Happy Inkin’ Thursday Hop

Today I am joining the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop for my first time! I am excited to be part of this awesome group of stampers! Today’s Sketch Challenge is below:

One of the things I love about being part of the Stampin’ Up community is the incredible support Stampin’ Up provides for its demonstrators. They support us with creative ideas and techniques, not just the business. And then there’s the whole culture of creating and sharing ideas among the demonstrators as well. I already love stamping, but being part of this community is the icing on the cake! I received my inspiration for today’s card from the Succeed Weekly email we get from Stampin’ Up each week. This email always includes creative suggestions to try. I am using one of ideas featured in last week’s Succeed Weekly’s email using the new Iridescent Treat Bags in my card.

Do you see the Iridescent Treat Bag?? Its on the back square panel! This color goes perfectly with the new Spooky Sweet Suite! The color of the bag changes from the purple color to an orange color with a hint of green too! To make this card, I used Petunia Pop as my cardbase. I then layered it with a candy patterned layer of the Spooky Sweet Specialty Designer Series Paper (4 x 5-1/4″). For the square in the back, I cut Basic White at 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″ and inserted it in into the treat bag. I used the heat tool in a gentle side to side motion to melt the bag onto the paper. Once it was melted, I trimmed the extra part of the bag off and then blew the heat tool over the edges to finish sealing the edges. I adhered this on to the card with Tear & Tape Adhesive.

For the top square, I cut another Basic White square in the same size, 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″. I stamped the cat image from the Spooky Halloween Stamp Set in Memento Tuxedo Black. I colored the image with my Stampin Blends in Smoky Slate, Petunia Pop, and Granny Apple Green. I stamped some extra “bling” around the cat in Granny Apple Green and Pumpkin Pie.

For the banner, I used the More Messages Die to cut out the Pumpkin Pie banner. For the “Spooky” sentiment, I used Versamark and Black Embossing Powder to heat emboss the sentiment. The paws on the cat stamp were colored carefully with my Stampin’ Write Basic Black marker and then stamped onto the banner to make it look like the cat is holding the banner. At least that is the intention I am going for! Below is the die I used for the banner.

I adhered this stamped square panel on top of the other square with Tear & Tape as well. I also used some small pieces of Stampin Dimensionals where the top square is hanging off to help keep it propped up. I adhered the banner with Multipurpose Liquid Glue and used another small dimensional where it hangs off as well. I did not add any other embellishments as I wanted the Iridescent Treat Bag to be the star of the show!

For the inside of the card, I adhered a small strip of the DSP on the bottom of a Basic White panel (4 x 5-1/4″) . The white panel was also stamped with some more of the “bling” images in Granny Apple Green and Pumpkin Pie. The sentiment “Happy Halloween” was stamped with Memento Black Tuxedo.

And of course I had to decorate the back of the envelope with the DSP as well. I used a 6x 2-1/4″ inch strip to glue onto the flap on the back and then used my scissors to trim the excess.

It was really fun making this card with the new technique of using the Iridescent Treat Bag that I learned about from the Succeed Weekly email. I hope you will try this technique as well!

  1. I saw that technique for the treat bags and thought how interesting—I love that you used it. It looks great. Really cute card. So happy to see you on the blog hop, hope you will do it again! TFS
